PS2 copies will run you in the $30-40 range with packaging. Especially since it can run in very high resolution and just looks phenomenal. Again, the PS2 original is the way to go here if possible unless you can get your hands on the PC release which is, much like SH2 a very good release. Silent Hill 3 - Less options here, unfortunately. Stay far far away from the HD remastered releases on the PS3/Xbox360. Emulation is again an option here and PCSX2 is a fantastic emulator that allows you to play the game at much higher resolution (this applies to both SH2 and SH3 on PS2). etc.) but can be a bit of a chore to get running on a current rig and its tough to find and super expensive for a legit copy. The PC version of the game is also quality (it's also missing some fog effects.

It features the most "accurate" version of the game with all of the effects and visual elements intact as intended. Silent Hill 2 - The PS2 original is the way to go here.

Best Option (that doesn't cost an arm and leg): PSX played on PS3 Emulation is also an option as well if you have an original copy and most emulators will play using the disc in the PC's drive (or you can rip an ISO). Green label copies will run you in the $35-40 mark though. Alternately you can track down a copy of the original and play it on an original Playstation or Playstation 2. I'll assume not and if so, the PS3 download version should be just fine. You can get super crazy into the retro world and look at things like the Framemeister but I don't know if you're shooting to go that far into this. 2 has a groundbreaking story for video gaming with amazing portrayals of mental illness, but in the creativity department it's really lacking and desaturated(Which is intentional, but isn't as enjoyable or scary as either the first or third games).ġ is really cheesy looking back(after having finally playing it myself), though it's soundtrack and atmosphere is still completely unique. I'd argue 3 is both mechanically the best game in the series and the most enjoyable. Though, if you wanted, it'd be fine sticking with the first four exclusively, all of which you would only need a PS2 for. I'd say try every game in the series, as they're all neat in some way, regardless of quality. A OG ps3 with backwards compatibility would be your best friend, as it'd be able to play every entry in the series(Though, a bad port of Shattered Memories that loses the neat motion gimmick) I'd advise going at it all, 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > etc. Silent Hill 1 and 3 have story connections, 2/4/Downpour are self contained, Origins is a prequel, Shattered Memories a reimagining of the first, and Homecoming is sloppy on what it wants to be in the series.
